WEATHERIZATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Weatherization Day October 31, 2016
The Weatherization Assistance Program provides grant funds to non-profit agencies, community action agencies, local governments and Indian tribes to provide specific services for low-income families of Florida.
The Weatherization Assistance Program is funded by the United States Department of Energy and receives supplemental funding from the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The amount of funding determines the extent of the services to be provided to clients.
The Weatherization Assistance Program aims at lowering the monthly energy burden on low-income households by improving the energy efficiency of the home. All work to be proposed must fall within a specific budget.
Thorough visual inspections and diagnostic testing are performed to diagnose and determine the measures needed to reduce the energy burden of the residence. Work must be performed under specific guildlines according to DEO.
Applicants must meet certain criteria before being accepted for the program. Clients are prioritized based on the characteristics of the family unit, not first come first serve. Applicants must provide all required information requested during the client intake process to become eligible. Once a potential client has been through the client intake process, a priority number will be assigned to them based on the characteristics of the family unit. This priority number will dictate the order in which they will receive weatherization. Clients must work with the agency and contractors, upon request, to schedule appointments.
