About Meals on Wheels, Etc.

Meals on Wheels, Etc. began providing Home-Delivered Meals and Transportation Services in 1973 to seniors of Seminole County. Since that time, we have added additional services that help meet the growing needs of vulnerable seniors in our area. We offer a number of vital programs, such as Neighborhood Dining, Homemaking, Chores, and Home Weatherization, that help the elderly remain in their own homes and continue living with as much independence as possible.

Since then, the elderly population in Seminole County has increased dramatically each year. Meals on Wheels, Etc. has responded with an umbrella of services to support this growth.

Since 1998, Meals on Wheels, Etc. has operated its own kitchen to improve the quality and taste appeal of senior meals. The kitchen was also established as a business model to raise revenues to offset governmental funding limitations. In 2004, the kitchen operation expanded to include food service for public and private childcare, adult daycare, and Top Hat Catering, a special-event catering service.  In 2025, 20% of our total income came from our kitchen meal contracts.

As our Seminole County senior population continues to grow, Meals on Wheels, Etc. is expanding its operations to meet these demands. That is why your contribution is so vital to our success in reaching our elderly Seminole County residents who are frail, low-income, socially isolated, and at risk for malnutrition or early nursing home placement.

This involves creative approaches to meet these challenges, which is why Kraft Foods and the National Meals on Wheels Foundation recognized us for our innovative approach to providing appetizing, nutritious meals for seniors.

With rising healthcare and living costs, some seniors have very little left in their budgets for food and other essentials. Seniors who live below the poverty line are often forced to live on an income of $220 a week, which in most cases is not enough to cover the cost of basic needs and triggers a rise in depression for our most at-risk seniors.

This is why our food delivery services are among the most essential parts of our efforts to ensure that our seniors maintain a healthy diet as they grow older.

As our senior population ages, certain social skills that are essential for them to lead happy lives begin to dull. Part of this stems from a lack of social interaction as their bodies begin to grow weary. We do everything in our power to provide opportunities for our seniors to engage in lively conversation and share their day with others through our home meal delivery services, communal dining, and transportation services.

These services help seniors retain these skills and a sense of dignity and independence, which is a boost to their quality of life.

For most low-income seniors, a sense of hopelessness can develop as they assess their current situation and begin to feel like there is no alternative available. This is why it is so important to ensure that they receive the necessary assistance and maintain a sense of community through our services. It is critical that our seniors feel the warmth of being cared for.
