What’s NEW with Home-Delivered Meals
Melissa Robinson

Home-Delivered Meals Program
Volunteer of the Quarter
(July – September 2026)
Congratulations to Melissa Robinson, Volunteer of the Quarter. Melissa started her volunteer adventure with Meals on Wheels, Etc. in 2020 delivering meals in Sanford, Route 8 and has continued weekly ever since. She’s usually accompanied by her furry companion, Basil.
Melissa’s husband delivered meals years ago when Ms. Rubie managed the program. Melissa was still working at the time but joined her husband and stepdaughter on the Christmas Day deliveries. Once Melissa was no longer working, she decided to continue the family tradition and started her own route – lucky Sanford Route 8.
Melissa shares that one of her clients was in the hospital on Christmas Day, so Melissa delivered to her in the hospital. The client cried when she walked in and said that none of her friends remembered her on Christmas, but Meals on Wheels did – thanks to Melissa.
Melissa says “Rewards of being a volunteer outweighs the time and energy that is required to volunteer, and I encourage others to take time to experience it. Just knowing that you can make just a little difference in someone’s life is a reward itself. It’s not just about the food. In some cases, the volunteer might be the only person that a client sees during the day.”
Thank you Melissa!

Home-Delivered Meals Program
2025 Volunteer of the Year
Congratulations to Dorothy Evans, Volunteer of the Quarter. Dorothy has been a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Etc. for over 15 years. One of her daughter’s friends’ mom delivered meals and loved it. Then Dorothy saw a memo in her church bulletin that volunteers were needed, so she signed up. Dorothy does a double route in Sanford and has been doing so for about 10 years. As shared by a fellow volunteer, “Dorothy is very friendly and helpful to her clients.”
When asked what the most rewarding thing about her volunteer experience is, Dorothy shares this: “When you can do something for someone, out of the goodness of your heart, and not expect anything in return, it’s pure joy!” She feels she could write a book about the many client stories because there are so many of them. As a volunteer, you learn so much about each client, where they come from, their financial situation, their health issues, and of course, about their families, far and near.
Dorothy encourages anyone who can spare a little time out of their week to do so. YOU can make a difference in someone’s life by being a volunteer, and it is always a good thing to help someone if you can. We are grateful to have Dorothy as one of our volunteers, and we are so thankful for her dedication to the senior clients on her two Sanford routes.
